What legislation would be applicable to a major construction project?

My girlfriend is at college and she has been asked as part of a joint project to research the legislation applicable to building on a greenfield site but which has has an industrial past (90 years ago). She has started looking but is like a rabbit in a cars headlights because as someone else has said practically every piece of legislation could be applicable. What she really needs is the main areas/acts so that she can research them and take the results back to her group.

Any help would make her eternally grateful and stop me getting a sore ear from all the moaning/whingeing!!|||I think you need to narrow the question down. Are you after legislation relevant to obtaining planning permission, relevent to the process of designing the project, relevant to the process of construction, or some other aspect of implementing the project?

As far as planning permission is concerned, then the principle legislation would be the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, along with a whole array of secondary legislation stemming from that and various bits of primary legislation that have amended it, such as the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. A good place to start with planning issues is

And by the way, a site with "an industrial past" is arguably not a green field site.

HTH|||here's something from someone who is not exactly sure what they are looking for:
