What is the Different between standards and legislation?

legislation is basically law; but what about standards?

i know what standard is, but i can't explain it :D|||The legislation is the higher law. The standards are the subordinate law that applies to the higher law. For example. The Disability Discrimmination Act may have an Disability Standard for Education.

Its purpose is to explain how the laws of disability discrimmination apply in Education settings, the intent of the standard/law and to whom the standard applies to. It would define what an education setting is. It is a bench mark of required performance in a specified area. It states cleary the expectations and when someone is not being compliant (meeting) the standards. Hope this makes sense.
