Tom Tancredo says we need to repeal the provisions of the civil rights legislation of the 1960's that allow 'those people' to vote. Who are those people he thinks should be disenfranchised?|||Wow. Why don't they just where white hoods and call their meetings Grand Dragon conventions of the KKK?|||But i thought the tea baggers were not racist? Their panties get all in a bunch if you even suggest racism.|||Apparently Tancredo has suggested literacy tests be reinstated. The first time I heard that mentioned was by an elitist liberal who thought only smart people should vote. So I guess the disease goes both ways.
Tancredo made his remarks at the convention in Tennessee, which I honestly hope fails. The tea bag movement is grassroots, and someone is trying to institutionalize it.|||the blacks and the answer is no|||lol the tea baggers. the best part is they coined that phrase for themselves...themselves.|||Tom Tancredo is a moron who couldn't even to get Republicans to vote for him for President.
He's so racist that the "I'm not a racist but..." people were abhorred by him.
**** Steve B - that is what Civil Rights legislation did!|||English literacy tests for voting would be an excellent idea.|||I wonder if his grandparents could have met his standards.
A literacy test would DOOM Sarah Palin!|||Tea Party racists also think that illegals got Obama elected. Of course they haven't figured out that illegals can't vote.
this is typical of the tea party.|||Tancredo suggested a literacy test for voting, not repealing civil rights. But liberals have no need for little details like that. The truth doesn't seem to fit their agenda.|||I think he just said people need a civics exam to vote to make sure they understand issues. I don't agree but I think the impact of those laws today would be very different than it was in the 60s, to be honest. I think all sorts of white, suburban Paris Hilton followers would flunk, for one thing.|||At the national Tea Party Convention in 2010, Tancredo suggested that literacy tests, as a requirement for voting, might have prevented Barack Obama from being elected President. These remarks were criticized by Colorado state House Speaker Terrance Carroll, who described such literacy tests as "hateful", and by the Southern Poverty Law Center's research director Heidi Beirich, who said that "He's calling for things that, thank God, were banned and were part of Jim Crow life...To me, it's an incredible thing to say. We've been down this road before. It's not a good history for us to follow." Tancredo, however, said that his remarks were not aimed at African Americans. Given that "average" American reads at a 7th or 8th grade level suggests that up to 65% of Americans would be eligible to vote.|||Personnaly I think All Laws that refer to any color, sex, or anything that Degrades another to "Less then Worthy" status be eliminated. Ie . . .
If your a American, You can Vote.
If your a American, You can serve your country.|||I would prefer that " Those People " be that right wing Nut job Tom- Tancredo.|||Apparently Tancredo hates the Constitution. Which doesn't surprise me for the hypocritical Astroturf Teabaggers meeting in Tenn. I don't have a problem with the real grassroots protesters. They have a voice that needs to be part of the dialogue.|||Great idea. Let things be equal for all of us again, not special rights for minorities. EQUAL!|||I hope he is talking about illegal Latinos that boost the Demos in office but wait til Nov. Ha!
