How do i propose legislation in my state?

live in massachusetts and want to write my congressman or someone who will listen and help me understand how to propose legislation. specifically, i want to propose new laws that would protect animal's rights... more specifically i want to initiate a proposal or discussion to protect dogs from being discriminated because of their breed. where do i start and what should i expect in regards to my involvement and in terms of the support i would need to move forward with this?|||Start with city council where you live. See if you can get it passed at a local level. Then make an appt to see your congressperson and show them what you propose on a state level.





If this breed has a history of violent behavior you are going to have to have proof that it isn't the case.|||I don't agree with Rep And Dem. What you're thinking of doing is a good thing. Because most of BSL is based on ignorance, but you still need to offer a solution. Not just for pit bull type dogs, but also for all dogs. We may as well take care of the over population of pets by creating laws to help.

|||write letters to everybody at every level (local, state and fed). If and when u get an appointment, be prepared by researching other similar state laws that set a precedent. This will have more influence especially if it came from another liberal state like say Connecticut because it gives a senator or whoever an idea, or model, of how he might please his own constituency and score more votes for re-election. A hefty petition wouldn't hurt also. In fact, if mass is anything like here in Florida, a properly organized petition drive could even force a ballot measure that might amend the state constitution (u wouldn't believe how many ridiculous amendments have been achieved in just this way down here). So research that angle as well. Anyway, I hope this helps because I agree with ur cause. Pit bulls should not be banned, bad owners should be banned.|||my advice, please stop. now. You are being forgetful and ignoring science and anecdotal evidence right? We all do that sometimes, no worries. I wish you the best but please, please, PLEASE rethink your idea. It kinda....well.....it sorta......ummm........is not good. (To put it nicely!)
